April 9th Writing Workshop

Using Technology to Build Writing Skills

A variety of computer programs and equipment have been designed to help struggling writers. "Merging Writing with Technology," the last of three workshops in the NCBIDA Writing Research, Writing Practice series, will explore the most popular of these technological aids. Join us in San Francisco at Fort Mason Center on Saturday, April 9, 2005, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon as special education teacher Robert Luke shows how software programs such as Inspiration, Microsoft Word and Kurzweil can help streamline the writing process. The workshop will also cover the six traits of effective writing, graphic organizers, rubrics for different writing styles, and tips for using software programs. This presentation is particularly geared to the needs of middle and high school students.

Mr. Luke has taught grades 6 and 7 for the past nine years at the Charles Armstrong School in Belmont, CA, where he also served as faculty technology curriculum coordinator. Previously he taught at Landmark West (now Westmark School) in Encino, CA. Mr. Luke holds a BA in International Relations from UC Davis. He earned a single subject Social Science/English credential from Dominican College and a Learning Handicapped Mild/Moderate credential from San Jose State.
