Letter from the President
The Northern California Branch of the International Dyslexia Association
has presented many exceptional speakers, panels, workshops and seminars
in the 35 years since our inception. Many of our recent programs have
been made possible by the support and cooperation of Schwab Learning.
We look forward to continuing this dynamic partnership and tradition of
excellence. In the future, NCBIDA will be welcoming such luminaries as
Ruth Serepca, Ph.D.; Eileen Marzola; and a panel of adults with dyslexia.
Currently, the Northern California Branch is undergoing some positive
organizational changes in an effort to continue bringing you, our members,
the most up-to-date information and programs tailored to your needs. Your
branch works closely with the International Dyslexia Association office
in Baltimore, MD, to carry out the mission of the association. The International
Dyslexia Association is an international organization that concerns itself
with the complex issues of dyslexia. The IDA membership consists of a
variety of professionals in partnership with individuals with dyslexia
and their families. We believe all individuals have the right to achieve
their potential, that individual learning abilities can be strengthened,
and that social, educational and cultural barriers to language acquisition
and use must be removed.
IDA actively promotes effective teaching approaches and related clinical
educational intervention strategies for individuals with dyslexia. We
support and encourage interdisciplinary study and research. We facilitate
the exploration of the causes and early identification of dyslexia and
are committed to the responsible and wide dissemination of research-based
knowledge.
