Letter from the President
Dear Branch Members,
Welcome to the electronic version of our branch newsletter! We believe this new format is more user friendly and fiscally responsible. It also enables us to share information with a wider audience. I encourage you to forward articles and information that you see here to colleagues, teachers and friends.
Once again our branch will offer scholarships for Bay Area teachers who want to take summer training in multisensory teaching methods. Hundreds of Bay Area children are getting the reading help they need because of the training their teachers receive in the summer. We are privileged to partner with several local training sites to help provide needed financial assistance. Additional information about the scholarship program can be found on our website (www.dyslexia-ncbida.org).
I want to remind NCBIDA members who offer learning disability-related services that we maintain a very active referral system, particularly for LD assessment and reading/dyslexia intervention. If you are an NCBIDA member and you wish to have your name distributed to individuals who call our referral line, be sure to submit or update your referral information, if you have not done so in the past year. A referral update form is available in the members section of this newsletter.
As your new branch president I am pleased to be serving with a wonderful board of directors and advisors. I want to extend a heart-felt thank you to outgoing president Frances Dickson, who served this past year. Frances led with wonderful vision and clarity. I am so pleased that she is continuing in the role of branch vice president.
Don't forget our May 15 event with Dr. Jeffrey Gilger. He will examine the biological basis of developmental disorders that interfere with reading and oral language. More information is available in this newsletter, including a link that allows you to register on line. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Barb Langeloh
Branch President
