Letter from the President

Dear Branch Members,

As you can see from page one of this newsletter, our workshops this year will focus on writing. Our October 16th workshop, featuring Regina G. Richards, coincides with National Dyslexia Awareness Month and reminds us that dyslexia affects not only reading and spelling but many aspects of written expression. I am excited about this presentation and our overall Writing Research, Writing Practice workshop series because learning this foundational skill is problematic for so many students. The three events scheduled over the course of the academic year in our series should be helpful to both teachers and parents who work with struggling students. Please join us for one, two, or all three days. This issue of our newsletter is also full of interesting articles and information on helping students master writing skills.

NCB-IDA is thrilled to announce that we have received a grant from our national office to revamp our Web site (www.dyslexia-ncbida.org). Our new site will have a fresher look and more helpful information for you. Look for us to "go live" later this fall.

Finally, on behalf of our membership, I want to express heartfelt thanks to Nancy Kong and Stacy Stewart, who are leaving the NCB-IDA Board after many years of service. Nancy was our newsletter editor and Stacy managed our information and referral line. In addition, they provided wise counsel, offered their friendship, and helped the group in countless other way. Our best wishes go with them!

Sincerely,
Barb Langeloh
Branch President
