2005 Board of Directors Election

We'd like to officially welcome the following individuals to the NCB-IDA's leadership team:

(Appointed to complete an uncompleted Board term)
Melissa King is a mother of two teenage sons, one with considerable LD/ADD challenges. She has planned programs for PHP's LD/ADD Lecture Series and is a facilitator of a grief support group for parents of young children. She most recently worked at Parents Helping Parents on an educational advocacy project with children in the juvenile court system. She has a keen interest in school reform and other educational issues.

(Appointed to the Advisory Board)
Cindy Schlichte has been in education focusing on learning disabilities for the past 5 years. She is trained in the Slingerland approach and is currently working as an Educational Therapist in private practice including remediation and advocacy. Cindy enjoys helping empower her students and educating others about learning disabilities by frequently participating in IDA simulations.


NOMINEES FOR THE 2005 BOARD

The following candidates have been nominated to fill positions as members of the Board of Directors of The Northern California Branch of The International Dyslexia Association:

David Futterman, M.A., is a graduate student in the Joint Doctoral Program in Special Education at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State. He received his M.A. in Learning Disabilities at Northwestern University. He has worked with native and non-native English speakers in general and special education classrooms for the past 13 years.

John Osner has taught children with dyslexia at the Charles Armstrong School for the past 22 years. He has been director of the Slingerland Teacher Training there for over 10 years and is a member of the Faculty Senate of the Slingerland Institute. He has presented workshops on the teaching of mathematics to children with dyslexia at the International Dyslexia Association and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. John is currently a mentor teacher at Charles Armstrong School, has a private tutoring practice, and is working on writing another math workbook.

Lynne Stietzel has been working in the field of education for the past 39 years. She is an AET Certified Educational Therapist, counselor for learning different students, and co-director of the Thinking and Learning Connection in Palo Alto. Lynne is currently teaching at UCSC. For the past 15 years, she has been facilitating a group and lecture series for parents of children with LD/ADD and for professionals at Parents Helping Parents. She has raised two children who are dyslexic and is dyslexic herself.
